How fair is it that Jake Long is half Chinese with a white dad and he still gets an incredibly Asian last name?

Maybe I’ll start going around calling myself by my mother’s maiden name - Ford and Tsao have very different connotations!

Let’s just conveniently give the kid, who’s already very asian in appearance a totally in your face asian name tacked onto a white dad.

If it was that important he be Jake Long or have an asian name, why didn’t they make the dad asian, or give him an asian first name? Or make the mom white? We don’t see a lot of white female, asian male couples on tv now, do we?! It’s like it’s a sin, cardinal tv sin! Although, in the future if Rose was ever to get with Jake that might happen but they put that potential romance in jeopardy on the show - it’s not enough that he’s half dragon, he’s literally at odds with the pretty white girl he admires.

And what’s up with the half dragon/asian metaphor? I mean, according to the show it’s a super cool thing that you carry around like a secret to be half dragon = asian. Obviously, Jake looks pretty asian for a cartoon but for halfies in real life that’s not always the case, racial identity is more like a secret we carry around with us. Maybe that makes us mystical dragons, or maybe not being able to publicly relate to our heritage is a big pain in the ass burden like Jake’s dragon secret. Not all of us have our asian heritage right in our freaking names (even when it shouldn’t be there! talk about gimmicky…follow the rules tv!!)
